Dal Lake

Wular Lake
The largest freshwater lake in India, spanning over 200 sqkm is located about 32kms to the northwest of the city is hemmed in by snow-capped mountains on north-east of the pristine valley exuding a pictorial charm.

Hazratbal Shrine
Highly revered by the Muslims, the white edifice of Hazratbal Shrine sitting on the banks of the betwitichingly beautiful Dal Lake is a sacred pilgrimage site of the Muslims. It draws a large number of devotees who visit to pay obeisance to the Prophet and the his relics which are stored here. This popular Islamic shrine also contains a strand of Prophet's hair.

Khanqah-e-Molla
Placed on the banks of the charming River Jhelum, this holy shrine of Muslims also called Shah-e-Hamdan carries all "the secrets of Allah". This holy shrine also bewitches every visitor for its splendid wood architecture.

Jama Masjid
A fine specimen of Islamic architecture, Jama Masjid built in 1674 has beautiful prayer halls, a lovely compound which resembles Mughal Garden. The masjid has an air of sanctity attached with it.

Shankaracharya Temple
Perched at an altitude of about 1100 ft on Takht-e-Suleiman Hill, the ancient Shankaracharya Temple, built by Raja Gopadatya is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple arlier known as Gopadri came to be known as Shankaracharya Temple when Shankaracharya resided here for few days about 10th centuries ago.
